Kim Speller & his 'old boy network'
Kim Speller has been working in telecommunications for over 40 years, starting off as an apprentice in Post Office Telecommunications (hence the love of Strowger) and progressing from telephony to data communications with British Airways and then moving on to Northern Telecom/Nortel to specialise in the training, design and support of Passport Enterprise and Carrier networks.
After Nortel, Kim ran his own consultancy - Wendover 9 which was ultimately purchased by Horsebridge Network Systems.
Nowadays, Kim runs 10meg Consulting in much the same vein as Wendover 9, providing specialist technical consultancy on design, tranisiton and support of legacy networks, particularly legacy Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks using the Nortel Passport 7400/15000/20000 (now Ericsson PPX) product.
Kim Speller is arguably one of the most experienced and respected techncial authorities still working on the Nortel Passport/Ericsson PPX platforms and has had significant techncial involvement in networks for; T-Mobile, SITA, H3G, MBNL, MoD (Cormorant), DFTS, C&W, Skynet 5 and more recently the successful transition of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) network to BT's Ethernet Connect/IP Connect network.
